Which Months Have Three Paychecks? Use Your Actual Payday
There is no universal list of three-paycheck months. The answer depends on your exact every-other-week pay sequence.
Two people can both be paid on Fridays and still have different three-paycheck months if their schedules start one week apart. That is why a generic calendar can give the wrong answer.

Why the three-paycheck months change
Biweekly pay means one paycheck every 14 days. That usually creates 26 paychecks in a year. Because those checks do not divide evenly across 12 calendar months, two months usually contain a third payday.
The exact months depend on one known official payday:
- A Friday schedule anchored on January 2, 2026 has three paydays in January and July.
- A Friday schedule anchored on January 9, 2026 has three paydays in May and October.
Both examples are correct. They follow different 14-day sequences.
Can a year have 27 biweekly paychecks?
Yes. Calendar alignment can occasionally place 27 scheduled paydays inside one year. For example, a schedule anchored on Friday, January 1, 2027 produces three paydays in January, July, and December.
The free calculator detects this automatically and lists every payday, so you do not have to count dates manually.
Is the third paycheck really extra?
Not automatically. Before assigning it to savings, debt, or a planned purchase, check:
- Unpaid bills due before the following payday.
- Food, transport, childcare, and other essentials in that pay window.
- The reserve you need to keep untouched.
- Payroll deductions that may make the net deposit different from a normal check.
Holidays, employer rules, and early direct deposit can also change when money appears. Use an official employer payday as the anchor and confirm unusual dates with payroll.
